New Voice Actor to Play Ryoko for Tenchi OVA 3
Im back with more anime news.
This is taken directly form www.animenewsnetwork.com (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/)

Petrea Burchard (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=3390) confirmed to be the only non-returning cast member for Tenchi Muyo (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=919) OVA 3. After Kamikazecon, FUNimation representative Lance Heiskell said that only one voice actor (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/lexicon.php?id=75) from the original Tenchi Muyo (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=919) ensemble would not be returning for the third OVA, but didn't mention who.

One of our forum members was able to confirm from an e-mail to Petrea Burchard (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=3390) (Ryoko) that she would not be returning. Below is the letter she sent, reproduced with her permission:

"I appreciate your taking the time to write.

Indeed, it's no secret that I won't be returning as Ryoko.
I feel it would be unprofessional to reveal the details of
why and why not. We just weren't able to work it out.

I loved playing the part and have enjoyed correspondence
with many fans over the years.

In my experience, most actors will give their all and do
their best, and I'm sure whoever plays Ryoko in the new OVA
will be no exception. I hope the fans will give her a
chance.

Thanks so much for writing!

Sincerely,
Petrea Burchard (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=3390)"

Cartoon Network and Production I.G. Join Forces for
First Toonami Original Series

Today at the 2005 Tokyo Anime Fair in Japan, Cartoon Network unveiled the highly anticipated new series, IGPX. Cartoon Network has been pioneer in bringing popular Japanese animation to the U.S., expanding the fan base further than ever expected. Now, Cartoon Network leads the pack once again by partnering with acclaimed animation studio, Production I.G. and Bandai Entertainment to produce IGPX, an original series for Toonami, the Cartoon Network action programming block that first brought anim

Aww! I'm sad to hear about Ryoko, but I'm glad to hear there will at least be a #3.

I'd heard about the original series. It's good to see more anime, but I hope that this trend does not become so prevalent that good non-network produced anime can't get in :(

Hmm, I'm kind of looking forward to IGPX now :)

Anyone remember back when Adult Swim was on twice a week (saturday + sunday) and they played Yuyu Hakusho? Why yuyu hakusho was considered adult I do not know... seeings how they eventually moved it to Toonami.

One of the Most Popular Anime in Japan

April 08, 2005

The Cartoon Network has announced that the One Piece anime series will make its Cartoon Network debut on the Saturday night Toonami block with back-to-back episodes, which will air starting at 10 pm on Saturday, April 23'rd. The One Piece anime has been airing on the Saturday morning 4Kids TV block (on the Fox network), but has so far garnered only average ratings in spite of the fact that One Piece is one of the most popular anime series in Japan. While the pirate-themed One Piece could be seen as suitable fodder for Saturday morning viewers, the series has elements of humor (and violence) that could make it a major hit with the slightly older anime fans who watch the Cartoon Network's Toonami block.

I don't think so. Alot of Cartoon Networks Shows have been censored a good example is zatch bell. Watch carefully and you will see some inconsistencies

yeah i liked the old cartoon network alot better too. They use to play stuff lyke outlaw star and tenchi muyo now all they do is play these kiddie shows dat noone watches anyway. im just waiting for Eatv to come out wit new anime

Amnistar
04-11-2005, 11:53 PM
Well, it's not the censoring that i'm worried about (though that bugs me too) but the fact that they butchered and changed the storyline. Which is why it doesn't sell anymore. But then, they made it "kid friendly" when they took it. I think they could bring back some of what was cut (and change the names so they're correct? Maybe?) and it would make me much happier.

america has gone to a new low look at the filth they try to do
Lets Save America - Ban Anime Now

View Current Signatures (http://www.petitiononline.com/mod_perl/signed.cgi?cutiepie) - Sign the Petition (http://www.petitiononline.com/cutiepie/petition-sign.html)

To: George Bush

Here in America, we live in a climate of moral decay. What is the cause of this? It is called "anime". Anime is a perverse, evil, insiduous form of animation from the dark land of Japan, and is corrupting America's youth at unprecedented rates. Here are a few examples of anime which are circulating on the Internet and may very well be in your home:

1) Ah My Goddess: A sick and disgusting show which causes children under the age of 18 to think they are capable of love. The main female character is clearly under 18, and is forced into a romantic relationship by an older man who "wishes" for her to be his girlfriend forever. He even KISSES her, and she appears NAKED. That poor girl must be so confused.

2) Love Hina: I'm not even going to mention the unspeakable, disgusting, pedophilic, pornograhpic events which transpire during this show, but suffice it to say, groups of young men on Love Hina-fueled rampages are raping children at a level unheard of since the 60s.

If you are a parent or a decent human being, I urge you to sign this petition to ban all forms of anime in the United States. Anyone who is found in possesion of anime should be arrested and jailed for an exhorbant period of time. Anime is a dark scourge upon our beautiful nation, and we don't need this Japanese filth corrupting the hearts of the children.

As a resonsible Christian, I demand to see this garbage removed from our nation. Please sign this petition and send it to George Bush, your Congressman, and the makers/distributors of anime filth and depravity.

Do the right thing.

Sincerely, The Undersigned (http://www.petitiononline.com/mod_perl/signed.cgi?cutiepie)

Anime, The best thing for teens... It gives us teenagers a sense of reality, love, drama, and most importantly... a heart! unlike the adults signing this petition (http://www.petitiononline.com/cutiepie/petition.html) its TERRIBLE, it sickens me! Japan is NOT dark, evil country.

1.Ah! My Goddess - It is a love story, the kid in the show is in his teens... and Belldandy is MUCH older since. Belldandy is a goddess hence the power to grant the boy anything he desired, and wishes DO HAVE RULES! which she decided to put aside, she WANTED to date him. Ah! My Goddess is a love story, a sad, beautiful love story showing that no matter how high of power you are... there is no guy that is to low for you.

2.Love Hina - This is also a love story. All the perverted stuff clearly happens on accident. This comedic love shows Keitaro slowly falling in love with Naru Narusegawa. The scenes that show love with Shinobu (the young girl) are Shinobu's own wishes, she WANTS to be with Keitaro... but Keitaro has morals and doesnt want Shinobu like that... only as a friend. Keitaro falls in love with Naru. Just like Ah! My Goddess... this show is beautiful in its own ways... there is nothing sickening about it at all.

There are many more beautiful anime's and some are kind of gross, but the really gross ones are made for adults only. Japan, is a great and lovely country! I will not sit and watch ANYONE bad mouth it EVER! You people that signed that other petition sicken me and i could care less what you have to say!

So everyone... please sign this petition. For the good of the Teenagers of america AND all over the world. Anime is NOT evil, it can help people relieve stress and have a good healthy immagination. The people who want it gone, and out of this country, will raise terrible dull boring kids! If I didnt have anime... i wouldnt have a heart! I have learned alot from anime... and I wish for other people to learn from it also... but I can see you idiots out there... that are helping the governement take away more of our freedoms in America... want to make our kids boring, plain, and all the same! All I can ask is to bring MORE anime to america! Thank You for signing!

Sincerely,

The Undersigned (http://www.petitiononline.com/mod_perl/signed.cgi?6G78Sksa)

I never really got into one piece... ah well :(

I have no worry that anime will not be banned. Anime may be subjected to the same types of parental rating system that much other entertainment is subject to now, and that's a Good Thing (if it's not already subject to the ratings). Ratings help lend professionalism to the industry, and remove negative images from anime that does not contain these elements.

I haven't had a chance to watch One Peice, but I want to. I've read the manga and I think it's too violent for younger (10 and under) kids. I don't think the manga is like the anime, though. Maybe it's alot tamer. :D

If I were a parent I don't think I'd let my kids watch alot of what's out on television right now [yes, this even includes most anime.. *gasp*]. TV ROTS THE SOUL@:P

Sim9
04-14-2005, 09:36 PM
lol Kiara, I have not seen it myself, but it did not look that violent. Then again, having only seen glimses... ;)

Amnistar
04-15-2005, 07:58 AM
Well, it's more violent than most anime, but less violent that some. And it's a lot less violent then Dragonball or Dragnball Z. Granted they edited it alot, but that's not my complaint. My complaint is that they actually removed one character's backstory completely (zoro) and change the character's names.

Sim9
04-15-2005, 11:30 AM
Ouch! That's a lot of editing. I think that if a story is edited from the original for network TV, there should be a warning displayed, just like a warning is sometimes displayed if time was cut from a movie. Guess they don't do that as much these days though. :(

Fansubbers, Fansub (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/lexicon.php?id=63) Viewers and Industry Interviewed Los Angeles Times ran an article about fansubbed anime in the Calendar section yesterday (Page E3, or online here (http://www.calendarlive.com/movies/cl-et-fansub20apr20,2,2162606.story)). It discusses what fansubbs are, touches lightly on the legality and has quotes from fansubbers, fansub (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/lexicon.php?id=63) viewers and the industry.

The article opens with the statement that when Fullmetal Alchemist (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=2960) premiered on Cartoon Network, " many American viewers had already seen all 51 episodes" and adds that when the first DVD was released, some fans already owned copies of the entire series.

The fansubers and fansub (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/lexicon.php?id=63) viewers interviewed stick to "traditional fansub (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/lexicon.php?id=63) ethics" where fansubs of a title should be removed from circulation once it is licensed.

In response to the arguement that fansubs provide companies with "gold-plated marketing information," Chad Kime (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=15509) of Geneon Entertainment is quoted as saying, "[that might have been true several years ago, but currently] the bidding on many titles begins before the show even airs. Additionally, more and more 'B' titles are being ignored by the fans; many companies suspect that sales of these titles is impaired by distribution in fansub (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/lexicon.php?id=63) circles."

Amnistar
04-22-2005, 06:44 AM
I can actually see how that is true. But then, i wonder how often people in Japan purchase the "B" title anime? I mean, there you can record it off TV, here, you don't have that option.

Sim9
04-23-2005, 02:50 AM
Yeah. Then again, quality on DVD is better than television, so if you like an anime, you would probably buy it. I'm not sure if anime is as expensive there as it is here, either.

Amnistar
04-23-2005, 05:35 AM
at least as expensive. I remember watching a Japanese game show where the two prizes up for competition were...A small AC unit and a CD set. Honest to god. So...they're apparently of equivalent value.

But another important factor to think of, is the fact that for some people, a fansub is a single use thing. They watch it then delete it, content to never watch that anime again. This is especially true for the B tittle anime, since they're often of lower quality story or art. No one is going to pay 10 dollars for 3 episodes of an anime they're only gonna see once. This is one reason why i am a big supporter of the idea of an Anime TV station(s) that show only anime and anime related comercials. It would be a subscription based company, like HBO, and can also set up some kind of system where they advertise the DVDs for what was just shown. I honestly believe that kind of targeted advertising would work best. For Example, you're watching Dragon Ball, and the commercials are for the new Dragon Ball box set, the dragonball action figures and such.

Sim9
04-25-2005, 10:56 AM
A very good idea Amnistar. The only problem with this is that many anime companies believe some broadcasting will take away potential sales since users have seen it and won't want to see it again. As companies realize consumers are not willing to pay dvd prices for a single viewing, I think eventually the market will shift, and broadcasting will be more popular.

Bandai To Buy Namco for $1.7 Billion Bandai, the third largest toy maker in the world and the parent company of Bandai America, Bandai Visual and Sunrise, has announced that plans to buy videogame maker Namco ltd. and merge it with Bandai. Bandai has already purchased 6.3 percent of and is set to purchase the remainder of the company in a stock swap.

The original 6.3% of Namco was puchased with cash for 10.5 billion yen (US$99.9 million) in cash and Namco shareholders will receive 1 share each (per Namco sahre owned) in the new company, Kabushiki Kaisha Bandai Namco Holdings (Namco Bandai Holdings Inc in English). Current shareholders of Bandai will receive 1.5 shares each (per share owned) in Namco Bandai. The total value of the deal is approximately 175.3 billion yen (US$1.7 billion), 13% higher than Namco's closing market value on Friday.

Shareholders of the two companies will meet in June to approve the merger.

The new company will be formed on September 29 and will be directed by a mixed team of Bandai and Namco executives.

The two companies are expected to compliment each other's market weaknesses. Bandai is has a strong stable of character rights, but is weak in technology, while Namco is a video game technology leader but has few stong character brands.

Bandai Namco Holdings will be Japans second largest toy and videogame company, after Sega Sammy Holdings, which was formed when Sega Corp. and Sammy Corp. merged in October 2004.
