View Full Version : Possible Quick Mod

I think I am going to do a little hl mod work on the side. Nothing big, mind you. Here is the idea:
All the players play a squad of men that are holed up in some area/structure with a plethora of ammunition and turrets (all of which are of limited ammo, with ammo respawn every so often), fighting off an increasingly larger hord of zombies that just keep coming. Wouldn't that be the most kickass thing ever, for a LAN party or just a quick fast-pased battle? It would be coop, and end once after a certain amount of time (random) that will be ticking in the top.
Anybody think I should do it? It would require very little work, really. Mostly mapping. The coding would be a snap - I doubt I will have much to do in that respect.
I really like the idea.
Well, it's not quite that, but HT needs some bug-stomping if you're interested. I'm seriously considering fixing some HT bugs and releasing it Open-Source :D

id like to see a SP coop thing similar to Sven coop without the pings of sven coop
(i wonder if the new sven addressed this)
Unfortunately, that would be a huge project, and maybe not even possible, since it would involve overhauling the monster net code. Then again, the latest sdk may have fixed that and svencoop is just running on the old one... hmmm....
Rainmaker, how is the mod coming? :D

It is going good. Nice to have a break from Xion, though by next weekend work will resume. I need to post about what I am doing on the site...
Anyway, I just finished alpha 2, which fixed all sorts of bugs. The gameplay still isnt quite what it should be, though. I need to limit the amount of respawns a zombie will do, and add more zombies to a given area. That way, you actually progress through a level, rather than simply run away from them. I also need to create some kind of respawn effect, rather than them just magically reappearing.
My favorite part of mod dev has forever been HUD development. I love making fancy pants HUDs, but have never been in a situation where I could just let loose and have fun with it. Well, now I finally have that chance. I am going to make the fanciest, flashiest, coolest hud ever to be seen in an FPS. Once that is done, all of the coding is complete. Just mapping from there on out, which I don't plan to do much. Hopefully somebody else will do that for me, but that is unlikely as the mod is such a small scale. Who knows, maybe it will catch on? As long as it stays low lag, then sure :D. Which is what we test today with alpha 2.

I just played it, and with a bunch more work on it this would be great for the lans I host. I'd reccomend that you make zombies stronger/faster so they arent so easy for groups of people to beat, and design the levels to try and limit the number of places a player can go to be 'safe' from the zombies, like standing on a table or something.
I'd also ask for you to make some zombie models, but thats a lot of pointless work and I can just copy/paste the They Hunger models.
Anyway, keep up the good work if you're still working on it. Nothing is better for small coop games than zombie blastin.

Rainmaker, are there any special entities that need to be placed?
Of course there should be since the monsters should have a custom spawn?
and the turrets will have an ammo value limit on them, in some new key?
Are we talking missle, gun, and laser turrets? or just gun turrets.
I'll whip you up a few quick maps, I never get to build map based guns, and I love doing it, and this give me a good excuse but I need some more techinale information about it, befor I can begin
Woo! I'd love another test of this mod! :D

So would I!
Really it's just a matter of pokeing Rainmaker until he releases another test. Commence the pokeing!
/me pokes rainmaker with a shovel
I'll try and remember to let Rain know in IRC about this thread if he's forgotten.
