Guild Wars

I'm probably gonna get into Guild Wars within the next couple of days. It's a diablo II type game that looks to be really promising. http://www.guildwars.com if you're interested in checking it out. My account name will probably be bamzilla. I'll give more news once I actually start playing. The game officially goes online tonight at 12:01 PDT.

EB Games, Best Buy, Fry's, etc have it for sale right now at $49.99. No monthly fees, and it looks like they'll probably only charge fees for patches. They haven't really established set fees as of right now.

Yea, they're pretty much like expansion packs. The fees still aren't going to amount to anything you'd pay to play something like, say.. EQ2 or WoW.

Well, I guess I can see that. But I wonder how lucrative Guild Wars will be. I mean, they're only making a one time profit, which has to stretch YEARS to come down the road, especially as more servers are added, and new products tested. Bandwidth isn't free :(

Well walrii think about it. If patches cost money, and some servers only work with certain patches...it works out to be close to the same amount of cost. IT's marketing genuis. because people get something tangable for their money (the exp pack).

Look at how successful Diablo II was, and their only extra income was the LOD expansion pack.

I haven't had a chance to really play, yet. My husband's been playing pretty much nonstop today. We haven't decided if we wanna put another $50 into the game to get me a serial, yet. ;)

I played a bit on his account last night (he let me create a character), and the gameplay was great. Really smooth, nice scenery, great interaction. Fairly easy to pick up on. Alot like EQ.

Anyways back on topic, if I got an MMORPG, I'd get WoW because my one friend owns it and loves it, it looks good. But my home internet connection would not let me play it, so .... I'm stuck.

I'd say "yes" but I have yet to have a chance to sit down and actually play again. My husband's one of those people that doesn't have enough patience to guide someone through a game. I still haven't decided if I wanna spend another $50 so that *I* can play while he's playing.

Actually, they're little things that hang down. They're part of the "leggings" armor which is nothing more than some underwear-type thing. It's +40, I believe.

Whew. Alright, click each to enlarge to 1280x960 size if you want. The pictures are (in order from top left to bottom right. Read left to right row by row):

1. Guildmates and I rocking out on a boat docked at our (now current) guild hall we were thinking of buying.
2. Waterfall that had a boss fight at the base of it. One of the hardest quests I had and it was for a miserable 500 experince points (500 is VERY low). I suffered a -60% death penalty (-60% total health and -60% total energy [energy allows you to cast magic and such])
3. Guildmates and I arriving at Wizards Isle which is the guild hall we ultimately decided on.

4. Large crystal that is surrounded by tar.
5. Desert oasis found much later in the game.
6. Taken during a lengthy fight against waves of undead soldiers and spellcasters.

7. Taken during a cut scene. It was a difficult mission and this guy attacking me somehow made it to the cut scene (as the scenes are done in real time with the game engine). He kept attacking me the entire time, and I just stood there and took it (since you obviously can't do anything during cut scenes).
8. My character decked out in my water elemental armor.
9. A nice shot after having taken down a minor enemy (that you see on its back curled up in the picture).

10. Another shot of the desert oasis.
11. A waterfall found deep in the forest.
12. Yak!

You can create up to 4 characters at a time, with a max level per character of 20.

And it's only $50, c'mon I paid for it with some of the money I got back from selling my school books back at the end of the year....

Right now I have three chars. One is a strictly PvP build meaning I can't even do the story with it. The other is a lower level one still near the beginning, I still have my high level near the end (not really but for as many hours as I put into the game it's as close to the end as I can get in terms of time), and an open fourth slot.

A group of us were travelling to a mission area in the desert earlier tonight. We ran into a bit of a glitch after we used one of the teleporters (they're a necessity to use in the desert since not every area is connected). Anyway, after teleporting, here's what shows up right where we were standing.

So yes. We used the one teleporter to teleport to the one you see in the picture. No sooner do I step off does that wurm pop up in the center of the 'arrival circle' on the teleporter.

The other members of EA that play guild wars are members of other guilds and thus do not wish to be a part of the EA guild. No problem with that for me, but i do wish you guys would stop poking fun at the lack of membership in the "EA Guild" because it's not our fault. if more members of EA had guild wars, then the guild might be bigger, and thus be better suited for guild wars play, and possibly convince those members of EA which aren't currently in the EA guild, to switch over *so go but it :p*

Oh joy of joys, I finally made it to the volcano island chain in the southwest! I'm so close to the end I can taste it, and it tastes so sweeet.

The first shot is just of some skeleton found in the desert. I found it rather amusing in a sadistic sort of way :D.

There are some screenshots there of the Dragon's Lair that features some BEAUTIFUL environments. The floors are reflective and the rock features are colored the same as the floor. There are different area during this mission, each a different color to correspond with the boss you'll have to defeat to go onto the next area. The colors also correspond to the different professions in the game.

Anyway, some "drunk" pics as well. Sorry about the funky text but I sharpened up some of the pics for personal use and the "non-artsy" ones got batched in with the sharpening and kind of messed the text up. Oh well.

Then some volcano island chain shots. I'll have to take some more while actually doing battle in the volcano fields. There's a lot of crazy stuff, some great lighting, and lots of lava/magma!

I've heard that after the first run through of the game, other characters will usually be able to run through it in half of the time. I'm also tempted to make a monk just because I know I'll always be in a group then.

EDIT: Also would like to point out the Underworld and Fissure of Woe is just amazing. I'll have some pictures from both later tonight once I sort through them.

Yeah, I sure did die in those pictures. With just henchmen and facing off against about 3-4 mobs of level 24 flesh golem that would raise undead every time one of them died... It was basically fighting about 30 enemies at once, a bunch of level 24 enemies and a bunch of level 16 undead that kept appearing every time a golem died.

Throw in a phantom (I think there was just one) that can cast a bunch of health draining/negative health regen spells...

Anyway, went back out the other day and check this out.

The first four shots are of about 5-6 mobs of pure phantoms that attacked us all at once. There were probably 25-30 of them all told. My group didn't die with that.

The last one is with a tougher battle with a boss, and mursaat that seemed to keep appearing out of nowhere. Probably about 15 enemies in that particular battle.

Beat the story missions.

yeah about PvP i heard you get these points and if you get 1000 you can unlock a skill or item. :D and I also started a new character he is a elementalist so far he is good but i don't know what his 2nd profession should be :( i heard from neo E/Me's are good though :p

Guild Wars is a great game, i own it and it has the best pvp mode ever. it has more than 100 missions and it actually takes skill. I prefer W/Mo as you can halfly kill the enemy and heal yourself at it.

bah pallys (W/Mo=Paladian if you did not know) they not that bad considering Neo is one and i watched him fight many times. :p

hmm thats the SAME THING I DISLIKE :p if it was to lvl 50 or 75 it would be a great game!

which, oddly enough, is what i LIKE about the game. The limit in level prevents people from becomeing obsessed with the leveling aspect of the game. Enhances the community feeling, and allows someone who just started playing the ability to compete with other people who play.

Some craaaazy fun in the Underworld... until we were absolutely slaughtered by spectres that kept spawning after killing one of the ghostly riders there. Seriously, kill one rider and 4 spectres spawned. We start attacking them and they are pure mesmer casting spectres that absolutely drained us within seconds. Two monks managed to escape, after about 15 minutes a plan was decided and somehow they led the spectres back to the ghost wasteland (best way to descrbe it), with only one monk left alive he somehow manages to circle around them an escape, thus reviving the rest of us.

It was absolute madness. We then returned back to the area, kill the three remaining spectres. Guess what? After THEY died 6 more spectres spawned in an area directly to the right of us. We manage not to aggro them, and skirt past between them and another ghost knight. Where we're at is basically a series of raised plateaus coming out of a green mist below. We run into a ghost knight we can't get past without killing. Killing it spawns 3 spectres that we manage to kill. And AGAIN, more spectres (6 at least) spawn after the first 3 die. We ran because there was no way we were going to take them on with any success. The entire area was basically one large dead end. We aggro'ed just about everything, ghost knights, spectres, and Terrorweb Dryders. It was the worst possible set of circumstances the game dev's could have thrown at you. Some hours in the Underworld with the team and it was probably the most fun I've had down there.

Some screens from some PvP with guildies, and some Underworld madness. Some of the PvP shots included show off a battle between red and blue that we had to wait on. We waited nearly 20 minutes and they both were near full health after constant battle. We actually ended up just leaving since it looked like there was no end in sight.

They're just the Air Elementalist clothes. You can get them wherever elementalist armor is sold since they all look the same (Except for the 15K armor).

And here's just 3 pics from tonight:

First is the old me with the 1.5K armor wearing the pyromancer gear robe.

Second is me in my 15K aeromancer robe. The rest of the armor (gloves, pants, boots) to come later once I get another 45K not including material costs.

Third is just a little bit to show FyRE how much experience he'll end up getting once reaching the higher levels... 400exp to get to the next level? You can easily get that amount double, triple, etc in higher levels. Probably the longest stretch for me was going from 18 to 19. 19 to 20 was pretty fast because of where I was in the game and the rewards given.

I fought a amazing battle And i was the only one allowed to battle him it was like fighting myself.. but if i killed him under 50seconds and i get the bonus i was thinking the bonus would be 1000exp but noooo it was a amazing 50000exp! so i gained 6 skill points there.. Sadly it was to fast for me to take a screenshot :( and instead of me being a E/Me Im now a E/Mo and on my Journey i found out how to get a guild hall but i think it was 40k :( I got some pics not a lot though.

But this is how it goes we are doing to Fort Ranik Mission and we are at the Catapult part (start) and there was a boss and they said lets go the other way but i did not listen and went straight. I just realized that the second picture is quite a bit funnier than it looks because im actully SITTING there, they are hitting me for 0 and losing 1 hp when ever they hit me (retrubution) they all eventually killed them selves.

Well when you beat the game, and you do a quest, outside of ascalon you now fight lvl 24 charrs! and lvl 28titans! but.. The quest in ascalon is impossable i think it is called the last day dawns with ONLY 4 members in your party your supposed to kill lvl 24 charrs and keep the king of ascalon alive! Very very hard!
