Well, Its Summertime again. This time Last year all of us gamers were waiting for a bevy of games. Heres my Thoughts and ideas on each game that i waited myself.

UNREAL TOURNAMENT 2004:

WHOO This one was a personal favorite, I never was a big fan of Unreal Torunament, There in I didnt play it alot, but 2004 kept me playing it, and to this date I still have it installed. The game had alot of upgrades from 2003 and implemented my favorite modes from the orignal UNREAL TOURNAMENT: Seige mode..all your bases are belong to us. UT2k4 FyRESCORE - 9.5 Playable

FAR CRY:

I waited of this game by Devoloper CRYTEK for a while, The new engine and physics looked amazing, Pictures were not enough, So I downloaded the demo that Crytek put out. The Demo showcased what was the Second mission of the game, Destroy the Comcentre and escape. The lighting of the demo along wth the physics and the 5 or 6 ways to escape I found amazed me. Character models are crisp and the entire game was a nice get. Only this I have to lament is more towards people than the game, and thats lower end older Graphics cards such as the NVIDIA Geforce 3 series and its respective competitor the ATi Radeon 8500/9000 series didnt pack the cohonas to view the game NEARLY as good as the engine was capable of. Even with all the settings low this game looked amazing, but with my higher end videocard, The game was alot more surreal. FyRESCORE: Flawless Victory 10

DOOM III

DOOM III: Wow, this one people waited for forever huh....from everyone downloading the alpha, to the final release, to the bevy of pictures and videos, to an actual playable MP demo at E3. EVERYONE watched this game, ID software had this in the works for a while, Yeah, I played the Alpha and Yeah, I now own the actual store bought game. This game being Single player Focused, drew my attention a little more than usual, I had alot of expectations for it. The game is based on a storyline about a marine, sent to a planet to fight off invading alien species (See DOOM, DOOM II Final DOOM) This games graphics were amazing, the textures were crystal clear from any distance, and the framerate was very solid with the top end graphics card I have. I also for this review have installed it on my lower spec computer, and it ran great all the way into the final bout with the cyberdemon, with very low gfx the game STILL looks amazing. As much as this should get the score "Far Cry" got, I am afraid however, I can not do that, The game in my eyes was entirly a bit shot, myself beating it in about 4 hours on nightmare. This game has great effects and the engine has ALOT of potential, ID did a master peice here, But could have extended the storyline a little more than they did...not enough time in the "Hell" levels im my opinion. FyRESCORE: 9.5 "Lets Rock"

Half-Life 2

Whoo G-Man is Back, and its time to whip out your pistol and lay down some smack. incrediable physics and a neato gravity gun automatically get this game on the good side, though I wish I didnt have to cheat to get the "Blue" Gravity gun from the beginning of the game. Nothing like tossing people through windows or turning up the maxmass cvar and tossing cars and/or busses at them. The Single player aspect was amazing and the games story line took me a while to beat, I loved the Gfx and I loved how once again you start with nothing, and "Before" the incident happened.Weapon selection for me got a bit "stale" after a while, i soon resulted in using nothing but a pistol, simpally to add spice. The vehicles were great, but I need to fly stuff...Valve..work on it ok? a jet, Bomber, Alien space ships, the "Independance day" Fighters, I dont care, Give me flyable stuff. The game was fun and multiplayer was pretty good too, and of course, Counter-strike is also based now on this "Source" Engine.
FyRESCORE: GravityPwnage.....10 ==Actual gamescore....9.75 Playable.

SIMWORLD:

This is a teaser Review of v3 of Simworld, I will express some bugs we found, and my thoughs of far on the game. Simworld is a FPS based on the Tribes 2 "Torque" Engine. It allows dynamic "In game" Editing and you can get 100 fps in this game on a toaster. Sim9 Fixed alot of bugs this release, although me and Insane seem to have problems jumping Dune buggies over the canyon on his map. apperantly, the Buggys can not grip/drive on the Griders we placed as the ramps, Though I DID manage to jump it almost all the way over. Sim9 has posted screen shots of this in a diffrent forum, I urge you guys to check them out. The game is turning out great so far.
FyRESCORE: Its time to kick %$$ and chew bubblegum....I cant jump the buggy. STILL gets a 10 ( uh, ill make the scale 1-11 when I can jump the buggy..lol)

lol Fyre, you seem to be a very lenient reviewer, the lowest score was a 9.5

Warning to Sim9 (the spoiler nazi) : I saw a few spoilers in the reviews! :P

I do some day have to try FarCry just cause tropical rain forests look cool :(

Never thought I'd see SimWorld with those other big titles

Still, I agree mostly with your reviews, that all of the above are awesome games. If I get some time later, I'll expand on each :)

I do need to play the new version of ut2004, which is nicely priced now ;) (Or I could wait for UT2007) :P

I can't honestly believe you rated Doom 3 so high. Good looking textures from any distance? From any more than 5 feet in front of you, it was pitch black. Anything within that field of vision was covered in textures that were entirely too small for the objects they were being mapped to, resulting in very bad looking textures.

Perhaps if the textures were of higher resolutions, then maybe I could see your point on the visual appeal of this game, but as it stands, I disagree with that comment. I'm also surprised you mentioned nothing about the very repetitive gameplay. Kill monster in dark room, advance a few steps, kill monsters that spawned BEHIND you, get armor, kill monsters that spawned behind you or that came out of the wall, rince, repeat.

In Doom 3's defense... it has GREAT ambience, I love the random sounds constantly going on.

In the beggining levels you do infact see pitch black but as you advance the levels get brighter, the graphics then get better, they shake the game up extremely slowly adding a new gun every 2 hours, as well as new monsters, however the monsters are added at a much faster rate. The voice acting and plot unfold. a 7 out of 10 is a 70% Would you like to see that on your next paper? This is a well deserved 70% maybe if they would have shook the game up faster like hl2 it would be good. The music and sounds are god too.

unforutnatly, im a fan of doom, the ony part i cared about was ripping out a BFG and blowing stuff away, the textures look VERY good on a x800 plat card and were often well lit thanks to the Ducttape mod :P

I can sum Doom 3 up in one emoticon: :|

I don't see anything extraordinary about it, nor do I find anything really negative about it. To me, it's just there. Although I will say that it reminded me of Turok 2 on N64. BAHAHAH.

The extraordinary thing up Doom 3, is its engine. Granted, I agree, it kind of looks plasticy and pixellated, but the fact that ALL lighting is real time, and that maps compile in seconds, is just pretty cool from a modders perspective. TFC / HL maps can take hours to compile :(

They were still blocky and "stretched" on a 6800GT. The textures were horribly low res across all platforms.

Yeah, real-time lighting is awesome :D

The method HL uses (along with most other games, including SW) is lightmap based, which essentially (correct me if I'm wrong) means that lighting is calculated in a time consuming process, then rendered to a very large texture which is applied to the world. The texture lies on top of the other textures and is the brightness the color texture should show at.

Sim, that is the way it works. :)

As cool sounding as this method is, it makes placing interior structures in simworld hard/impossible without lighting artifacts :(

Sim : can't you relight on a per interior / structure basis?

Sim9

Not without making some changes to the function that does it. Right now, the function relights everything. :(
