Well, I spent $30 on a game called,"Area 51", the game seemed good and I have seen many good reviews and trailers for it. Unfortunatly, I ran into an ungodly ammount of problems with something you would experience with a demo, beta, or something of that nature. First error, was a typical error: This program has performed an illegal operation yada yada yada. This would appear everytime I attempted to open it. Although I could not get this fixed on this computer, I decided to over come it by moving it to the 3 GHz computer as opposed to my 696 computer (I am normally very hesitant about installing games on the 3 GHz computer as my father or sister takes it over or kicks me off before I have time to play). Finally, I got passed the Illegal opperation error. Now, I set my configurations to my normal ones on other games. After I finished the intro movie I got the illegal error, I restarted it and it worked. W00t! Now, I got to play the game! (W00t?) I waited for the level to start and it did, now the first thing I noticed was the texture for the person was not there (myself having made models before could identify this easily). Then the door open and the light effects were soooooo messed up that I could see nothing but white. I ran around (blindly) and noticed if I crouched and looked at the floor I could see textures but if I looked up then I would be blinded. My weapon wasn't textured, I could only just barely see 1 or 2 shadows. When I could see, for the brief seconds, everyone was not textured. I googled for an answer and I found people with the same problems. Now, I updated my graphics card and it still did not work. So I went with what someone else did. The person claimed that the new updates for the Nvidia graphics card were horrible and did not work for Area 51 and therefore after downgrading to a very low version 4.*something* then it worked. He gave a link to the update archive and I downloaded a version (close to what he said, as the version, that he said worked, was not there). I installed it and rebooted and it still did not work. Please help me! So here's a summary: 1) I managed to fix the Illegal opperation error. 2) Area 51 does not support many graphics card or thier updates. 3) The textures are messed up and the Light is messed up as well. 4) It seems very much that they rushed the release of the PC version so they could merly get more sales from the non-console owners.
Please help me.

Have you tried running it in compatibility modes? Try fooling around with all the different options in there...

How old is Area 51? I remember an arcade game called that, but didn't think that they would make a PC version since it was a standard "on rails arcade shooter" kind of thing.

Never heard of the game, but can you return it to the store?

Area 51 will not let me mess with it's compatibility options, it is a new game created this year, Area 51 is a sweet game but it's really ticking me off. You can't return games that are CD's.

I'd say update your drivers. I know someone got it to work with old drivers, but apparently that isn't working for you. New drivers always have bug fixes that older drivers didn't have and rarely do they break games as new versions come out.

Also, what about calling the company and asking for a refund, stating that it does not work with your computer even though you meet or beat all requirements listed on the box?

Yes, I beat the requirements on my computer by alot. Updating my drivers also came to mind but that didn't help either. My somewhat old drivers did not work either. But I will be sure to call the company tommorrow and ask.
