View Full Version : Super Metroid = Tasty
Super Metriod = Tasty
Lots of good gameplay in there
- Hidden Areas
- Finding new powerups/goodies
- Using found objects to progress
- Fairly nonlinear

I never really could get into the metroid games...
Really? You're both missing out ;)

I'd much rather play "dotGame!" (name subject to change)
^ The "old school" (crap graphics) game I've been working on.
Prepare for 3rd rate story:
"You are the sole survivor of the nuclear war that destroyed man-kind in the year
2031. Though only you remain, the radiation has mutated the rest of homo sapiens,
in the form of gray mutants. They may be stupid, their movements are predictable, but
their numbers are infinite."
Basically, its a twitch fest game (use the keyboard or joystick) featuring a high score table and 3 difficulty levels! w00t! Don't forget the "dynamic" sound (the further left an enemy is the further left the sound comes from, and vice versa, with lots of enemies its a pretty neat effect), or shield feature (takes away your score but protects you from all collisions while it lasts).
First I gotta have some people test it, tweak it for funness / bugs, and add some last minute features.
test? and/or screenshots? :D

Title Screen (notice the high score table for each difficulty) (the high score table rotates among each difficulty and circles around the screen):

Here's some gameplay screenshot:

I need to add some more sounds (better shield one too). I was thinking of adding special items that randomly appear and are worth gigapoints.
Mind you, the game runs in 320x200 full screen mode so things don't appear nearly so small.
The sound is really good! :D

I can't tell if Sim is joking or not, so I'm gonna assume he's not joking.
Sim, they have Metroid Fusion for the GBA... portable gaming goodness...
The other must have GBA game is HTmud but who knows when it'll come out.............
lol
Not kidding, I LOVE the sound movement. HTMud needs sound once it has more graphics, and other assorted useful features.
And HTMud GBA would pwn, but I'd hate to put that much effort in and not be able to legally distribute it. :(
Also, the metroid for gba is only 6 hours, right?

TechTV (I trust them!) said first time players would get 10 hours worth of play out of it, where as experienced players would get about 5. However, the game does apparently reward you for playing multiple times through (how they reward you I don't know).

Cash?
Walrii: hmm interesting...
Insane: lmao
I'm now debating the pro's (gaming tastyness) vs con's ($$$) of a gba...

Is it too late to ask for a GBA SP for X-mas?
You can ask us, but we won't give you one :P

Pfff, get something worth it. Here's a thought for Nintendo: make the fucking buttons bigger! I played the GBA SP over the weekend and its like someone put a Nintendo controller in the microwave and melted it.

aie Sim... aie...
I MEANT, is it too late for YOU to ask someone (family!?) for a GBA SP.
I wasn't asking for one, I already have one.
I perhaps could, but I don't get too much use out of my current gameboy. My fear is that a GBA SP would gather dust much like my Gameboy color is now... :(

Were do You find Power Bomb or.. Power beam?.. bah. That weapon that opens the yellow doors... I Can
Hehe, welcome to the forums :D
I just happen to have the Super Metroid official strategy guide on my desk!!
Don't forget to fully explore brinstar. If you have then move on to norfair. Much of metroid is non-linear so keep looking around previously explored areas as well :D
I also believe you need to get the ice bear to get the power bomb (unless you try and shortcut the game ;) )
Please let me know if you need more specific info and I'll try and find it ;)
