View Full Version : The Metaphors Have Gone Awry

To encourage Insane to finish his creative writing, I wrote this. I'd add in characters for all other #htnet regulars, but I figured this would be enough to get insane to either finish his work, or run away :P

Insane2757 didn't finish his story. Thinking back all those years ago, he wondered what would have happened if he had. Perhaps he would have found fame, fortune, and widespread love of that story he had started years ago.

The idea had come to him in the shower. But he had only written it down. And he had never finished it. And because of that, he didn't find success. Instead, he settled down to become a tomato farmer.

Sitting in his tomato field now, he reflected upon his past. No, tomato farming was not the glory that Harvest Moon had promised. And now he had tomato guts all over his hands. Bright red, looked almost like blood. Funny, even had the consistency of blood. In fact, why was he now feeling tired. And why was his son, Insane2758 running over to him now. And why...?

***

Insane2758, the son of the late Insane2757 looked out upon his old homeland. And he hated it.

He had always grown up as a simple farmer, and because of that he was angry at his late father. A kindled rage grew in him. He would seek vengence upon those that had caused this. He would find those of #htnet, and destroy them.

***

Rar looked back back briefly as he headed out toward the cold city. Rar's father, Zips, had fallen out a tower window, leading to his premature death. Rar suspected #htnet's activity in all of this, but he dare not voice his opinions yet. Instead, he headed towards the downtown city, looking for clues, and more importantly, looking to get away from his persuers.

Yeah, so as for plot, I figured I didn't need it :P Same thing for writing skill :P

Everything in there is bad... :P

But insane still hasn't posted his. Sadness. :(

Walrii, weren't you going to get creative earlier today? How did that work out?

I was gonna work on an RPG, decided I would never finish it, then started on a tetris clone. Mind you, it doesn't work and merely displays a black screen... and I can't find my bug that disallows you to exit...

Walrii:  That no-exiting bug could easily be a conflict-of-interest :P

You know there are rpg makers which you can quickly make rpgs with? Check the main forum contest topic for details.

Ed: Welcome to the forums! Feel free to make a try yourself and then we can  at you too :P

I'm not gonna use someone else's engine! That would be efficient!

Seriously though, I like ASCII rpgs, and strategy RPGs (Final Fantasy Tactics), I don't know of any engines that are one or the other.

I was thinking of making an "Adventure" clone (for the Atari 2600), but I've got other stuff (midterms / homework) to do before that.

There's several adventure game engines. And if you mean text adventure, there's plenty of those too.

If it helps rpgmaker is made by a company named ASCII :P

No. :)

By ASCII Rpg I mean Nethack (http://nethack.org/) which still has more options / creativity / funness in it than all "modern" RPGs out there. It's just got a learning curve that's all... :(

*Gasp*

No! Not... LEARNING!?!?!?! :o

The thing that always got me about nethack is that it's not NETWORKED!

It's called nethack cause its members go together on this thing called the "net" and made it... but yeah, it's impossible to make a multiplayer nethack game without COMPLETELY changing its structure / funness.

Zips, you know some people out there (me), they rarely take the time to learn... (just look at the world).

I'm too busy vegetating in front of my monitor to go look at this thing you call a "world."

Zips, for your convenience, I plugged in "World" into google image search to find out!

The world looks very, very scary indeed. Especially beware of floating disembodied heads, each of which are easily bigger than the moon! One of which is Mr. T. And Mr. T is ANGRY!
