View Full Version : Anti-Forums v1.0

This is the initial testing build of Anti-Forums v1.0! Right now (and forever) it only views the EATV Content Requests forum in a nice, non-forumlike manner. Editing/replying capability isn't in yet, as this is just the very first stable build. Enjoy (or hate)!

Edit: Now version 1.1! Shiny! Adds ability to view entire post. The program is starting to actually be useful! Still no editing though, that comes next.

Edit Again: Now version 1.2! OMGWTFBBQ! Now actually changes the title of EATV threads. Finally, the program does what it was built to do. Woo! There is still a little work that I need to do to finish everything up, but it works fairly well. It would be nice if it would do all of the URL connection stuff in a different thread so it didnt lock everything up whenever the user clicks a button, but meh. I'm probably the only person that will ever actually use this. Please note: if you click the buttons to change thread status, it will do absolutely nothing unless you have moderator status on the EATV Content Request forum. So, for most people trying this out, it is effectively the same as the last version. Ah well :P

Edit 3: I've posted the source for the project at this stage, since this is very likely how I'll leave it for a while. If anyone wants to modify it to view other forums, edit things differently, etc, feel free! I encourage any modders to ask me questions, I'll gladly help. I'm on IRC for most of my waking hours! :)

Awesome Anti-Forums!

It'd be awesome to have a few of these for the forums I go to, as I go to a bunch but stick to some smaller portions of the forums.

Kercha! I can't wait to see the final version!

OMG new release! This marks a possible turning point in my coding and project management practices (seeing as how I didn't forget about the entire project shortly after the very first public release). Yay!

Awesome, RM.

I downloaded it and ran it, and doubleclicked a topic, and I thought the comp was going to crash >> My music went all weird and stuff and then the post appeared. Perhaps it's a flaw of having Dial-up?

It's testiment to the power of the One True Dog, Ruby. Such heresy as this project is doomed to failure and all of its followers will suffer the enduring pain of the eternal #Pope IRC chat room.

Turn back now, heathens and save your souls! Thou shalt only make access to the forums by manner of the forums! *Crackling Thunder*

Yeah, it might lag a little bit on dialup because it needs to fetch the page when you go to edit a post... It shouldn't be lagging for lack of processing power though... I'll have to check and see why it's trying to use tons of resources just to grab a URL (other than it being Java -- resource hog).

Edit: It spikes its CPU usage for just a split second on my computer, which is fairly normal, but it doesn't lag to the extremes you mentioned... Were you STREAMING music? That could explain it, otherwise I'm not sure why it would give you so much processing lag. Can you list your computer's specs?

Travis: lol

BT: I'm sure the program actually does something else entirely. I mean, why would you ever use another program to browse the forums? It's gotta be a cover for something else... :P

Sim9/Travis: I believe the correct order is:

1) Try it
2) Make fun of it (or not)

Tell me when you finish step one! :)

Kercha, I don't have my specs on me, but I can recall some...

Lame Intel ###letter###-something video card that came with the computer.
384? MB RAM
1.79 GHZ processor?
80MB Hard drive
Running Wind0ze EcksPea.

Yeah, pretty horrible. And I wasn't STREAMING music, either. I wouldn't dare try that on my lame connection!

EDIT: At my dad's with a fast connection, yet lamer computer, yet better vid card, I managed to get it working well. Awesome! There's even a log in screen :O
