... If you missed the first picture (box art), the game's for like all system evar.

[EDIT]

Okay, I played through the demo (twice, technically) and I have to say it's much better than the first. The 2nd time was a "freeplay" where you could choose any character to use to run through the demo level again. Characters included everyone seen from the level, the Emperor, the animals and misc. robots from the first level, and some random characters. Good stuff.

lmao, bloom effects on lego pieces :D

The game sounds pretty neat, but I don't understand why Lego does not release an actual building game. Seems like a logical tie-in. I guess this could take away business from their generally over-priced physical units.

And it could also save their business. (And yes, Lego has been having financial troubles for a while.) Think of all the specialty parts that they eventually came up with, when they started doing all of those "theme" sets. [which, BTW, I'm against - I believe that legos should remain as rectangular blocks that connect to each other. There are few exceptions to this.] So, you release the Lego base building block software. Then, a bunch of expansions for each of the themes. Pirate expansion. Medival Castle expansion. Star Wars expansion. It'd be like the Sims with it's crazy collection of a zillion content packs.

But... I guess it just wouldn't be as satisfying to piece together blocks on a computer. That visceral quality is important in building blocks, I think.

Of course, they would also make money by letting people build things virtually and then duplicate them with physical legos. I know a lot of people who swear by having physical things... I bet a few of them might actually try to replicate nice designs made on a computer Lego simulator. It would make it really easy to duplicate things, too, as it could easily feature a "replay from first brick" option, and calculate totals of each brick type/color. I bet some really interesting creations could come of that!

Blockland (http://www.google.com/search?q=blockland)

Basically virtual Legos with a different name.

I recall seeing a virtual lego program about five years ago or so, which was actually intended for planning out your lego creations. You had a huge inventory of pieces, and when you were done, you got a printout telling you which part numbers and how many you would need to order from the Lego website.

Blockland is a cool project too. I recall them trying to get permission from Lego to make it an official Lego game, but Lego refused.

At least as far as the CAD like program went, building in real-life is a lot more fun, and a lot more intuitive. Unless you use interactivity to bring the pieces to life virtually, then a lot is lost. I think Travis' idea of expansion packs can really work well here: use base building features and add in gameplay specific theme features (Build a pirate ship and then plunder ports with it! Build a space station and engage in bustling commerce!)

You just like building things :P
I'm surprised your apartment wasn't littered with legos or those connex things >_>
Not that I don't like building things, too... Just sayin ;P

I wonder if there is some kind of visible connection between love of Legos and love of Video Games? I mean, i LOOOOVED my legos.

I should get my legos shipped up here. I'd be so much less productive :D

I unfortunately haven't played with my legos since I figured out that in me and my friend's games of lego wars, you could really just make up whatever you wanted for weapons and stuff... And then is got lame and we stopped playing. I'm not sure why none of us ever thought of that in the first year or so we played with them ;P

see, me and my brothers never had lego war fights against each other, we always made good and bag guys and hte good guys would win...eventually. Our fights were always pretty destructive, with bits and pieces of the lego-ships flying off due to enemy fire.

I don't recall having multiplayer lego very often. :(

well, it was only because I and my brother would fight over the legos and our mom forced us to play together.
