Yeah, so anyway... On my normal trip to Penny-Arcade, I read the new comic.... Now since there was the main page news story I figured I'd post the image here since it's on topic but you know.... not.

Enjoy in the laughter :D

The phantom is the console that supposedly will have a very nice developer api; open to independent game developers, right? If so, it would be a nice dream ;)

Right now I'm betting instead on the xgamestation. :P

I'm betting they release PS2000 before Phantom.

lol That's funny. Assuming that its released, a very SMALL minority would purchase it. If you wanted to make games, I think you'd be better off developing for the PC since nearly everyone has one, and there are no license fees anyways.

The phantom has licensing fees too? :(

You talk about it as though it were real Sim.

I meant that the PC does not have license fees, just like the Phantom would not (if it comes out). That is to say, developing for the PC is free, and nearly everyone has one, while developing for the Phantom would be free (I think) but no one has one (and no one never will?).

Ah, good points on both Zips and Walrii's behalf.

I think that a game console that's highly modable will really take off though. If you look at half-life's bizarre success, if you can make a cheap, but decently powered console, allow free / opensource development, and get a few teams to make some really high quality free games for it (ala CS in HL), then I think there's really a chance for something big :)

Phantom is a nice, but improbable idea.

Maybe its just ahead of its time?
(Then again, maybe not)

Of course, that time is 2030.
