About two times now I have seen the commercial for this game. I have been wondering if this is worth the buy or not. As some of you may or may not know there are more than one version. This one is based on the story of Vincent Valentine. You control him from what it says and pics show. It looks as though they strayed away from the turn based fighting like in Crystal Chronicles which disappointed me. Would I be wise to buy this or not. Some oppinions? The game can be looked at here: http://www.gamepro.com/sony/ps2/23036/info.shtml, looks like the critics don't care for it that much but has 5/5 user score.

Woah, didn't even know they made this...

(I'm a big fan of FF7 by the way).

To be honest, it looks like it probably stinks. Personally, I don't even like Vincent Valentine, but I'd play it anyways if just because it's in the FF7 world.

If you can get it cheap, real cheap, I'd go for it. I mean, if you're a big fan of FF7 you'll get at least SOMETHING out of it that the average video game wouldn't.

If you've gotta pay full price then I'd wait until I could get it used.

Better yet, rent? Though that may not be an option. You could always buy used, play / beat it, then sell it back to someplace to get some of your money back?

sounds like a good idea Walrii, it sounds similiar to my own views on the game. Interesting idea, but not enough to make me want to go out and buy it.

Crystal Chronicles... turn-based?

As far as Dirge of Cerberus is concerned, here's what I know... It's kind of like an FPS meets Devil May Cry. During ordinary melee fighting, you'll be controlling Vincent much like DMC. When you whip out your guns, you switch to FPS-style controls, but in a 3rd person view... like Resident Evil 4 or Ratchet Deadlocked. It's actually a very workable control scheme (from my experience with Ratchet).

There are 2 leveling systems, one for your guns, and one for Vincent himself. You must choose how you allocate your experience gained. Do you trade it for money to upgrade your weapons, or do you increase Vincent's stats? The weapon upgrade system apparently is modeled somewhat from the materia system of FF VII.

Story-wise, this takes place 3 years after FF VII, 1 year after the Advent Children movie. It's all Vincent, but most, if not all, main characters make at least some sort of cameo.

Play magazine's preview is pretty positive and paints a good picture for me. I think the game will definitely be worth playing. Just remember, this is no RPG. It's an action game. I, for one, am very much looking forward to it.

Nah, you got to run around fighting them kinda like this one. As for the game, i'll probably just rent it, there is a remake version of FF7 coming out in October though, which if I am to buy any FF games any time soon that will be it.

On a large coincidence, I saw a friend last night who bought Dirge of Cerberus and he really likes it.

Is there a demo anywhere or something? I'd be interested in playing something like that... :)

Let me be the first person who has actually beaten the game once to write a small review. First off, the graphics will blow you away. The mini-cutscenes are the exact same graphics as the gameplay graphics, but the movie cutscenes are technically real (or, at least as far as I can tell).

Now, the game isn't perfect. The freedom to go to wherever you want has decreased dramatically over the FF series. The game is more linear than previous installments, but what it lacks in freedom, it more than makes up for in gameplay. Think of "The Matrix: Path Of Neo" gunplay, with the traditional Final Fantasy customizations and items.

It has long gameplay, with extra missions once you finish the game. It even includes a helpful tutorial. It's quite an interesting game, thus I give it a 9.5/10.

Thanks for the review gebbo (and welcome!). As someone who quickly bores of the traditional Final Fantasy combat, I'm interested to know what you thought of the new combat system?

I didn't like it much...but thats just me. I rented it about 2 months ago, never thought of sayin anything lol. I would click attack on a monster, about 50 times, does one hit for like 3 damage, im like WHAT? Then I turned it off and returned it lol.
