View Full Version : Ikkicon 2007

Hey everyone!
Live report from the front, here at Ikkicon in Austin! Things are looking great, we've handed out like...a bazillion business cards and sold 2 shirts (I think...). Lots of people expressed interest and we learned that there were several people that had already been part of our community. The best person was the one who admitted that we (read EATV) had exposed and hooked him to anime! How cool is that!?
So, this is the thread where we can talk about the con, and if anybody from the con wonders over to the site they can say hi! :)

Any infomation on what Ikkicon is? *Has no idea*

Neo: It's an anime convention in Austin, TX. I believe that it has replaced the previous Ushicon, though you'd have to hear from Amni or Sim to be certain of that.

Cool :)
So, what is the current supply of t-shirts looking like? Are we almost out?
(I'm hoping we can do another run of new t-shirts soon...)

Planning on doing an end report on shirt sales/business card distribution?

Sorry, yes, Ikkicon is indeed a convention in Austin. Things seemed to be going well when I left to come back, hopefully Sim'll give us a full report later :)
Posting one up now ;)
UPDATE: Posted here (http://forums.editingarchive.com/showthread.php?t=3963). Working on getting a picture :P

If we run out of these designs, I have a few designs in my head we can start voting on for the next batch shirts.
Donations (http://store.editingarchive.com) never hurt either, guys!

Aw, London seems to only have 2 anime conventions a year, the same one twice a year (I found out it's twice year from a guy who cosplayed as Suisei Seki).

No new member postings yet? I'm a little disappointed... though it looks like we have a new AMV author (http://editingarchive.com/downloads/814) :)
If you are curious to see our Ikkicon table, open the spoiler tag.
:!: Beware - contains picture of Sim! :!:

Out of curiosity, are there any other conventions Archive will have a table at in the future? By the way, very nice table set up there.

I hope so, wai. I hope to sell the (very) few remaining shirts, and possibly sell a new line of them for Archive project funds. Or paying the server bills...
Also, I strongly believe it will help the community a great deal.

The question depends on the cost of the tables, as well as the effect of the event on our community. As yet, it seems that we actually didn't gain any new members, which seems to imply it wasn't really worth it...
Wai: Thanks; If there's specific conventions you want to see us at, and they're either nearby/free, or you're willing to foot the bill, then let us know :P
Given we only sold three shirts, and have no new community members, I'd have to say it probably would not be worth doing again in the future. I'll still consider them on a case-by-case basis if they offer something unique which could draw community members more successfully.

I still think if we'd had more T-shirts displayed prominently we'd have sold more. But yea, I agree with the general idea. It didn't seem to be worth it.

The set-up did seem a little bit on the bland side. I think that the banner and shirts were good ideas, but perhaps better put up on the walls to attract people. Also, I think a fundraiser is a terrific idea for next year to get more free stuff to give out. I am more than willing to donate, but we need to make a donation drive on the news page and pull this community together!

I'm sorry, Sim, but I have to disagree. While it wasn't immediately fruitful, you did have some hits, and that gets the idea of the Archive out there. The people that you talked to will talk to their friends about it, and they'll visit the site, then they'll tell more friends, and so on. Word-of-mouth advertising. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon, the Archive will get bigger.
EDIT: 200th post!

That is true as well, it's just hard to judge the results of this sort of thing. This event was worthwhile, but we also got lucky and it didn't cost us anything aside from the time at the booth. Future cons, however, won't be as cheap, and 50+ dollars for a table is just not worth the investment...plus if Sim (or whoever is representing) has to drive to get to the con, we've got to add in gas and living expenses...

Hm, would it be possible to advertise for the Archive at cons without having to use a table? Say we were to "accidentally" drop a few business cards on a few unsuspecting conventioners? ;P Or would that result in trouble?
On another note, maybe these people may have just forgotten about Archive after getting back from Ikkicon, though I can't see how they possibly could. If a table were to be done again, maybe a list can be set up for people to write their emails if they want to be notified about Archive related news or something.

Ooh, that's a pretty great idea.
Like forcing them to remember...
I like it, it'd be cheap too.

No, but hardly worth the effort or cards. People aren't going to visit sites who don't even show what they are about if there are other tables set up. The table is the real way to go.

I think that is a neat idea.

I have the solution to all Archive advertising problems...
Giant paper mache Ruby, smack in the middle of the gymnasium, auditorium, whatever a con is held in.
Also, this should have been in this thread earlier: "CONNNNNN!!!"
Thank you, that is all.

Actually, I tried this at Ushicon with ten cards. I met someone at Ikkicon who mentioned they got a card at Ushicon -- so at least one card reached someone :)

As long as we're being highly improbable, I vote for a giant mecha Ruby that destroys buildings and uses laser beams to brainwash people into being loyal Archivers (and/or ACL'ers).

Also, hypothetically speaking, if we had a cosplayer to help us advertise Archive, do you think it would help at all? Or do we want to appeal to a less rabid fan population?
Amnistar

....are you volunteering? I mean...hypothetically of course.
waiforpie7
02-14-2007, 12:14 AM
Well, more like I met someone who cosplays and could possibly rope them into it if I could get on more "buddy-buddy" terms with them.
I think it really depends on the cosplayer, but once you have one or two people congregating around the table, people tended to come and take a look a lot easier. Perhaps visiting in a one-on-one setting is too intimidating and having multiple people alleviates that?
Amnistar
02-14-2007, 08:20 PM
WEll, it's also a matter of interest. You see, people like interesting things, and if someone else is looking at a table, obviously there is something there worth looking at, and you should be looking at it too.

Well, as long as it's in Texas, I might be able to make it just as long as I'm warned well in advanced.
