I need a MMO to play, any suggestions? (Any other than Runescape or Maple Story).

*cough* Maybe you should play on a server that is kind of.. you know... more private than others? I'm not hinting at anything. I just hear some servers have less stupid people and epic items for sale rather than endless grinding and raiding, which is one of the reasons I don't play WoW anymore.
I would also like to say that KoL (http://www.kingdomofloathing.com) is still an option, but Maple Story (I won't even link that trash) is a terrible MMO; its genre is more of "joyless grinding sim". I've tried Guild Wars for a couple days (and sadly have the CDs still floating around... interested?) and I have to say it is nice and the monthly fee is $0 USD, which is a giant plus. I'm sure you can do the USD to GBP/Euros conversion on that one. ;)

Last time I tried that it lagged like hell, too much pos-lag.
If you're looking for a really hardcore MMO, you might try Wurm (http://www.wurmonline.com/). RM's been playing, so he can elaborate more, but its designed to be more like the early days of Ultima Online, where there's really a challenge involved.
Want a weapon? Well, you better go chop down trees to make a hammer, mine ore and smelt it, use your hammer on it to make various components of it, then assemble it -- each step with a significant chance of failure. And if you die, you lose everything, making it pretty much an unusable character since you don't have any basic tools anymore. It's kind of interesting, but ended up being too challenging for my tastes.

I don't like the whole "You die you lose EVERYTHING" kind of MMO, I don't mind losing XP when you die but it causes you to have to walk back to a town instead of doing it the fun way and charging into a load of mobs.
Guess I'll see what it's like though.

Yeah, I would recommend a more private kind of WoW experience. It's amazing.
You could also try out Planeshift (http://www.planeshift.it/). It sure does look purty. Insane and I and some others tried it back a few years ago. It was rather unfinished / horrible back then, but it is actively developed so it might be much further along. It's always exciting to be part of a games development.

I've started playing WoW, I got a 10 day free trial, I see how that gets me.

10 days isn't long enough to realize that the end game content is the content that is truly fun, but requires hours of farming for gold and raiding in extremely over-organized raid parties for equipment.
Enjoy having freedom while fighting a boss? Join a raid party and realize that their are strategies for each boss and the guild leader will be telling you what to do (for almost all classes).
Like the crafting part of the game? Pick herbalism because that's the only way to make enough money to buy the inflated priced goods in the Auction House. Besides - herbs are the most expensive thing in the game and the only way to make potions; buying herbs late in game will make you poor. Enjoy eating dirt.
I'll save you the time: get the Orange Box, play TF2, be happy.

I've already got the Orange Box, but I only really got it for Portal lol.
And yea, I was going to see that if I still Like WoW after 10 days (8 since I had to waste two days, one downloading and one patching) then I might go buy it.

do yourself a favor do not buy Hellgate london if you haven't already by the hype prior to release the story was patched together the quests are at best ho hum! and theres realy no feel of acomplishment throughout the game.
