View Full Version : Saving Incoming Streams

Like EATV? Wanna help cut down on bandwidth delimmas but watch it on demand? Well, I have a suggestion... Just like you might sometimes record your favorite television shows, record EATV!
What you do is get this program (http://enki.cthuugle.com/) then open it and select "File > Connect" and type in http://editingarchive.com:8000/;stream.nsv. You'll begin downloading immidiately. Episodes will be labeled appropriately and commercials and videos will be seperated as well. If the files are saved as .mp3s, rename them to .nsv so WinAmp will recognize them.
Oh, and by the way... Don't watch the stream on WinAmp when you're downloading. It uses an EXTRA viewer slot, where someone else could be downloading as well. It also uses up your own bandwidth. My suggestion is watch them as they stream in... Like once an episode is downloaded, watch it while the next downloads, then do the same to the next.
Another tip... You can download more than one stream at once. So if you want to watch EATV but something ELSE is coming on another stream you can just record them both! The easiest way to find out the url of the stream is by adding it to your Media Library bookmarks and looking at it there.
I hope you find this information useful.
---[EDIT]---
Alright, I was wrong... You can watch the video as it's coming in. How? Let the incoming .nsv file get to around 3MB in size, which gives it a bit of a kicked-up buffer, then start watching the file. Again, connecting to the stream twice at the same time is bad, so please don't do it.
I get this question a lot, so I'm pinning it.
Keep in mind that while this is perfectly fine now, that you should NEVER do this if we license content ourselves. If we ever receive permission from ADV or another company to air their licensed anime, and thus begin broadcasting licensed anime, recording is strictly illegal on those licensed shows.
Therefore, only record programs that you know you can legally download.
In otherwords, be *very* careful what you record on other streams. Asking the owner's permission is highly suggested.

I think it's the way EATV streams are set up
I tryed the software out on some other streams without problems, but EATV is a no-go <_<
Could be that EATV trys to send you to a different stream if the current one is full.

EATV seems to have goofiness if you try to connect and it's already full :(
It apparently doesn't send an error message if the server is full and you can't connect.
My best bet is try when the stream isn't full (is that ever?) or donate and get a reserved spot.
Donating is a guaranteed thing :)
Yes, exactly walrii :)
It could also be that we broadcast in VP6.1 format?

Where is the program? Whats it called? I cant find it anywhere!
Did you follow the URL in the first post? It is an old post, so it could be outdated.
There is a service coming eventually for donators to download the content on EATV :)

hi, i downloaded the program and used it. if i look straight at the file it says "name".nsv
however, if i look at what it says on the left if i click on a file, it says "name".nsv.mp3
also, when i try to play a file, nothing happens on the screen, and it goes straight to stop. one final thing, sometimes next to the file name in the bar in winamp, it says (-16:-40)
please help, thanks
Walrii
05-25-2005, 06:51 PM
hmm... I say, rename the file to "name".nsv and not "name".nsv.mp3. Perhaps that's why winamp can't play it, it thinks its an mp3. Turn on "view file extensions for known types" (the setting is somewhere in windows) (or maybe you should uncheck "hide file extension for known file types", its something to that effect).
As a side note, you should for security reasons already have that option on or off as appropriate (I forget what the wording is). Some viruses will be named for example, picture.jpg.exe and the exe will have your typical "jpg" icon, so that when you view it, it looks like a jpeg, but when you try to open it (double click) it'll run the exe.

thank you, it seems to be working now. i didnt even know about that setting, so once again thanks.
one more thing, i didnt think it was a problem, becuase with enough persistance it would connect, but...
i follow the directions and stuff, and i know it works becuase it can connect, but 9 times out of 10, it says "too many redirects. terminating" occaisonally it freezes at "waiting for metadata", but that is probobly just an error. if i keep trying to conect, after a while i might get lucky and it will connect. is there any better way to connect and not get "too many redirects. terminating" so often?
I have no knowledge of the program in question, but glad to see you've got it working (sometimes).

lol glad we could help strikervega :) And thanks for the info on how to find the stream ripper.
Your error may just be due to the server being full (but I'm not really sure). If the server is full, it just kind of sits there and doesn't give winamp a message (we don't know why).
On a side note :P (ie a plug), if you want to have a spot reserved for you on the server, you can donate! Then, all you have to do is login at editingarchive.com (not the forums, but the main site) and on your user page you'll have an option to reserve a spot for yourself. Then, you can join with out problem, although, I dunno if that'll solve your problem strikervega, since I don't know exactly what's wrong. :(

its an inspired original, i got the inspiration from zell dincht of ff8, i think some came from one of linkin parks songs, an maybe one or two other things.
by the way, another problem i only noticed a short time ago as i tried to playback some stuff, what are the total kilobytes for the anime episodes? since theyre all roughly 30 minutes, they should be roughly the same. im asking since sometimes it dosent record the whole file, and i cant fast forward in winamp so it would take me a long time to verify each episode is complete that way.
About 50megs each, I believe. :)
As for the error, sometimes instead of retrying again and again, WinAmp will say "buffer 0%" or something else strange. :(

ACH! I just got stream ripper yesterday after a couple days trying to find it and I left my computer running over the night, but when I woke up, all the files were ".nsv.mp3" files, so I changed the program I had them running on(RealPlayer, I had everything running on real player.) to Winamp. And yes, it changed the filename to a .nsv file immedietly. But now the files just won't load! I try to play them and it shows the play symbol for like 5 seconds then changes to stop and never does anything afterwards. Could you help me?? Thanks.

make sure the file size is correct. If it is under a meg it didn't rip right. Also make sure you have the correct codec. (ie. install winamp 5) Other than that it should work. And welcome to the editingarchive. We hope to see you in the forums more and in our irc. irc.editingarchive.com #archive
p.s. Sim9: you need to change the commercial pointion everyone to irc.htmod.com

Thanks, I did everything there(Got winamp and checked and it isn't under a meg) But it still doesn't work! I dunno what's going on with it but I am still in need of help.
Hmm, I don't know anything about stream ripping so I can't help too much. Files should generally be between 10 and 70 megs, though.
Welcome to the Community, AlexRider :)

I've tried to rip streams before (music videos / music that you can listen to on winamp.com) and though I could download the files and they were the right size, they always played back too fast (as fast as my computer could I suppose) :(
Is that by chance what's happening to you AlexRider02?

I have no problems with ripped matterials. I make sure the files are split. I don't no what the problem is quite. The only problem I have is it not spliting correctly. You can sometimes see a few seconds of the next video at the end of the file.

Hello, i downloaded streamripper32, and i tried to use it for EATV but all it does when i try to connect is give me a error that says SR_ERROR_PARSE_FAILURE, meanwhile it says its "connecting" but it never does anything, i havent played with any of the settings, is there something i need to chage to make it work?
Bleh i didnt know it auto adds http:// and so that was there twice lol, now it seems to be working

If you donate you dont have to deal with connecting or buffering. Since you get a reserve spot. Also welcome to the community Crono. We hope to see you more in the fourms and IRC.

Actually the problem there was the program auto adds http:/ so my url looked like this: http:/Http:/editingarchive.com:9000/;stream.nsv
it started working without a problem once i deleted the http:/ that i added. tell you the truth im fine with just streaming off winamp.. i just want the mambo commercial :P
however i seem to be having the same problem with winamp another is having, it wont play anything that i rip off the streams, it acts like it want to play it, but it wont play it. would it be possible for me to download it from someone through email or like aim? to see if it would work? i would greatly appreciate it.
Also thanks for the welcome, im not a real big poster but i do tend to go around and read a lot of stuff, i usually post only if i feel like i have something to add, or if i want to talk about something.

I downloaded winamp ripper plugin to try one more time, and it works!!! woot!! now i just hope that the mambo commercial comes on and doesnt get interupted.. anywho im happy now :)
Since EATV doesnt seem to want to play the mambo commercial, if someone could send me their ripped version of it if they have it that would be great. My comp works with rips made with the winamp plugin. uhh if you can do it through email, Crono@mail2world.com
thanks ^_^

I went ahead and scouted around looking for the higher resolution file to upload the file to you since you guys are so great! here it is http://editingarchive.com/view.php?ID=698
As i explained in my comment, it does not work on winamp for me, maybe i just dont have the right Plugin or something, but i played it on VLC media player and it looks beautiful. ^_^

Probably you don't have the right codec then. No big deal. If I were to form an educated guess, I'd say that the video is encoded in an older divx format, which VLC supports but DirectX does not (Winamp uses DirectX to decode its videos I believe...)
Thanks a bunch, Chrono! :D

I heard from someone (I think it was darkfire?) that VLC supposedly plays EATV and other nsv streams, soI figure since VLC can copy streams, someone who can actually install a VP6 codec should try it out and see if it works :P

yah vlc plays it. but you need the vp6 codec for linux. not easy to find. Since its not made from nullsoft

Okay. I went to your link (Download This). So, where do I find the program to download?? Seems that all you have on your site is incessant chatter, where's the program?? I can recommend some useful streamrippers, in fact I've reviewed several. If it's not against the TOS to list them, I will itemize them here.

I have the VP6 codec if you need it. Also, Vp7 which, I assume, is an upgrade.

well I ment linux not windows. My stuff works fine. And for personal encoding i use xvid or h.264. The best streamripper to date is omg Streamripper. Its a plugin for winamp. http://streamripper.sourceforge.net/ It also has a linux port.
Here is some very important info. When you connect to eatv. In stream ripper there is an option to relay the stream. Turn that on. Then watch your own relay. Why do this. In default mode stream ripper opens 2 connections to the source. In relay all you need is 1.
Probably you don't have the right codec then. No big deal. If I were to form an educated guess, I'd say that the video is encoded in an older divx format, which VLC supports but DirectX does not (Winamp uses DirectX to decode its videos I believe...)
This is old but i feel like adressing it. Winamp uses directshow not directx persay. So if you have any codec for any kind of video winamp will play it. I suggest CCCP www.cccp-project.net (http://www.cccp-project.net). It use fddshow to decode things. Fddshow uses the libavcodec dll which has many codecs including all the divx forms and h.264, in it. VLC uses libavcodec too, but a special compile of it which may or may not work the best in your case.
