Does anybody know how to make a screensaver like this video?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13fv0H6NqSo

I've looked everywhere for a screensaver of an Aurora but they're all either 3D and crappy looking or they aren't even an animation.

I'd like to see someone make a screensaver with a aurora like t6he one in the video. Smooth and realistic looking.

Hmm, that would be a pretty cool screen saver.

Making a screensaver like that though... I dunno, it doesn't sound easy. Either it would require some high definition video (and lots of it), or if you want it rendered in real time then it would require a significant amount of CPU/GPU power.

That is of course, assuming you want a photorealistic northern lights effect.

A more abstract one (http://hamzaahmed.deviantart.com/art/Aurora-tutorial-82128338) could probably be done in real time and fairly easily.

Simplest way? Get a video of the aurora and just loop the video in your screensaver application :P

Neat tutorial for a still image though. +10

I was thinking of doing that, but there are very few videos of an aurora in real time. They're mostly time lapse. The video I put up there was the best one I could find.

I don't have vista. And I've seen the xp version of it, and it's not what I'm looking for.
