You may not have noticed, but yet another server has gone doen, in this case BoxTorrents.
It crashed at 10:00 GMT, (2am to you americans :P)
So, if you're seeding, it's a no-go situation. Current downloads are unaffected.
So far this month: My web mail lost a site
My ISP lost it's main router, without the spare kicking in
Boxtorrents has gone down
A couple of DNS servers disappered for a day
When will this month end
When the clock turns to midnight and July 1st is here, that's when.

This month seems to have lasted forever :(
It may never end
I have less than 30 hours to go til the month ends.... Not sure how time operates where you are but... :P
lol
My internet also went down all night last night :( (and it was getting better too, with a free upgrade on speeds, and much better stability. At least it seems fine now)
Boxtorrents seems to still be down. Though at least I got my downloads off it in time :)

With 20 minutes to midnight (GMT) I have a blasted powercut
Power was restored in 15 minutes, but yet another pain in june
Boxtorrents is *still* down! I hope they didn't get shutdown :(

I've just start using them, and they disappear.
All I can find is rumour, not factss <_<

Looks like boxorrents host was scared into dumping them :(
They should be back up in 4 days (according to rumour )

Are you serious??? What is this, a witch hunt??? That site was legal. I hate corporations, my dad told me yesterday that the industry looses 7 billion annually, so they wanna crack down big time. They named microsoft as one of the leaders in this crusade  Ofcourse
I'm not sure if the site was legal, or even moral. But it was sure nice ;)
DangerousDan
07-03-2004, 03:32 AM
Yes it was legal, they did not hold ANYTHING licensed.
And moral, that depends how one would look at it. I am sure that there would be good arguments on both sides.
jackbassv
07-03-2004, 06:00 AM
No, they were NOT legal, Dan.
They DID have liecenced stuff on the site (idiots)
I, Me, My Strawberry Eggs (and others) was a duel language rip of ADV's DVD!
Their may have been others, but that one stuck out <_<
They should stick to un-licensed anime, or at least unedited ones (like Cardcaptors), which are un-available to buy.
But, closing them down was heavy handed. Asking them to remove the offending links would have been better :)
DangerousDan
07-03-2004, 12:11 PM
They may have had links, but they did not have anything physically on their site. Its like kazaa there is nothing on their HD, they just link people together. Actually in canada they really eased up on it since the court ruling (year or 2 ago)
jackbassv

To all intents, a link is equivalent of actually holding the data.
I still think it was a bit stupid of them, allowing rips of the licenced anime on the site. Fansub versions - Thats a different matter.
I don't blame Boxtorrents, it's the idiots who supply the inital torrent in the first place.

Well in that case, Boxtorrents may be to blame as well since it should be at their discretion what to leave on their site.
Update!!
You guys have seen this right?? Looks like their new site!!!
http://www.boxtorrents.tk/
Boxtorrents had a ton of licensed content. As far as linking goes... I don't know. But I do know napster was sued over "linking" and you see how well that turned out...
jackbassv
07-04-2004, 04:48 AM
I may donate, once the site is up and running <_<
Other trackers kick licenced stuff off.
The new version should do the same (except card captor sakura, which is uncut and not available outside of torrents and Japan :P)

You guys should look up where .TK is !! They will not have problems there!! LOL

Sorry dan,
but both british and american law are extra-territorial.
The site is created in the US and therefore govererned by us laws. Where it's hosted is irrelivant.
DangerousDan
07-04-2004, 11:33 PM
Hmmmm.... I am not so sure about that. I am not saying I know for 1000% for sure, but there are ways around it.
Besides, why else would they host on a nearly deserted island ;)
Walrii

What about disclaimers etc? Like for roms they say, "You may only download if you own the original cartridges" etc, could they perhaps do that for anime too? ("You may only download / seed if you own the original.")
No, I don't think that would work Walrii. The only reason ROM sites are still around is because usually the games are years old, not still actively sold.
I don't think they're hosting there, I think they just are using a domain name there. If they're hosting on a lawless island, it is... lawless. I remember seeing a datacenter that did that, but there rates are OBSCENE. I forget the island's name, but it's an abandoned fort somewhere off the coast of UK.
jackbassv
07-05-2004, 05:14 AM
That data center no longer runs :P
They thought they were outside of UK control, but they weren't, so UK tax law was levied on their users :) Came as a shock to them
lol
Serves them right for charging that much money. The only people that could afford it would be drug dealers anyway.

On Anime-source, they have an interview wiith Davis Williams from ADV :)
It's short but Interesting (http://www.anime-source.com/banzai/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=722)
DangerousDan
07-09-2004, 11:52 AM
Interesting......I have some mixed feelings about that interview.
jackbassv
07-09-2004, 01:41 PM
The interesting think on Boxtorrents.com, is that ADV did not ask for the site to be shut down. They just requested the removal of ADV sourced files <_<
Reasonable enough.
Closing the site was over-reaction by the host
DangerousDan
07-09-2004, 01:44 PM
I thought that ADV told the host to get rid of box!??
jackbassv
07-09-2004, 02:11 PM
Go to boxtorrents (http://www.boxtorrents.com), the front page explains it all <_<
DangerousDan
07-09-2004, 02:15 PM
Ah that explains it all!!!
Ok i have leave now, I will be back later!! Enjoy you beer and steak!!
Very interesting interview...
I'm glad ADV only requested the removal of their content. I think that's more than reasonable.

I think that he was trying to be sort of neutral. And not to upset the fans that might buy ADV stuff.

Technically illegal? Pfft :(
Walrii, you're techincally illegal. :P
...
But, you're still "okay" :P
jackbassv
07-12-2004, 06:02 AM
Technically fansubs are illegal - We don't pay a licence fee to the orginal maker <_<
BUT, most don't mind
Watch BPS. At the end of Episode 5, part three, there is a message from the director, thanking those who watched it, including those who've had it subtitled and downloaded it on the internet in foregn countries (sic) :)
When these are (if ever) released on DVD, i'll buy them. Without our support the Anime industry will die, and none of use (okay, with the exception of insane ) wants that
Woah, that's awesome :D
Hmm: Some directors say "you're making it so we can't eat" and others are like the BPS director.
jackbassv
07-13-2004, 03:15 AM
As I've said, I will buy all the anime i've downloaded, when or in somecases if it becomes available, unless they only sell the cut versions, in which case, tough :P

It's basically what he says on the front page of bxtrnts :P
DangerousDan
07-14-2004, 09:16 AM
Yeah, but seeing the actual post is funnier :P :axed:
Wow. I wonder why linking to the site would be that bad?
DangerousDan
07-14-2004, 06:00 PM
Its because the link/site was really buggy. So he didnt want to overwhelm the site by posting the link. Well, the worst happened.
jackbassv
07-20-2004, 03:23 PM
Box is back :)
bit buggy though
to see the torrents, use search, and enter *, this will give you a list of all active torrents ;)
