Yeah, we don't have school all year 'round 'round these parts, so the idjits get to go during the summer to earn more credits.

Not sure what's so weird about that. It can't be significantly different from the University system you guys have in the UK. He basically means that he's taking a class during the summer so he can either accelerate his progress through his program, or make up for progress lost.

I'm sure you still have to pass certain classes to graduate, right?

Not really. Colleges look at the grades you got for GCSE but that only matters if you want to go to college. Unis only look at the grades (or points which are calculated from your grades) you got while in college.
But no matter what grade you get you still leave. Unless you did really badly and get held back a year, though I've only see/heard of that happening once.

So if you want to go on to the next step of education I guess yea, it's similar, but if you fail your exams you still technically graduate.

Hmm, I guess there's still motivation to get decent grades or you don't get to advance. Although, once you're at university, what's the motivation to do well if graduation is near-automatic?

I don't really have much idea about how it works at uni. Though hopefully I will next year :3

At Uni we have credits and stuff, neo =P
Have to pass a certain number or we have to retake that year (which we would also have to pay for again, so... even more incentive).

Anyway, yes. At Uni the system essentially becomes American, 'semesters' and all.
