The jaggy edges are a problem with AA on the images when used on dark backgrounds.

vBulletin also made the switch to AA "optimized" images and subsequently have the damn jaggy edges as well now. Luckily old vB images didn't have AA, nor do a lot of the ones you can use from the net from other sites.

I'd like to point out that had either of the systems chosen to use PNG format, instead of GIF for the images, we wouldn't have this problem. (Zips, I know you know all this, but am explaining for the benefit of those who may not).

With PNG, the alpha channel is 256 colors.

With GIF, the alpha channel is 1 color (on/off).

Thus when they made their AA, the color part drops off over 2~3 pixels. So for the first few pixels, instead of changing the alpha, they changed the RGB values. Then, later, they set the alpha bit. So this creates a good looking effect on white pages, an ok look on light pages, and an icky look on dark pages.

In other forums news, there's a new upgrade for the system which I need to apply...

Problem with PNG transparency is that... IE users don't see it (Not some sort of a joke either for thsoe who don't really get it).

PNG transparency on IE shows up as a solid color as if the transparency isn't applied at all.

It really only works on every other browser out there besides IE and IE based ones.

 You are, however, running in XP, despite that it has bugs :P

MS will never make IE "proper." They already butchered how it renders coding it's not even funny. Making text have a glow appear around it? Yeah, what the hell is that MS? No transparent pngs? C'mon. You know they're not going to completely redo how IE works. Even though Homeland Security labled IE a major risk, I still don't see a majority of people flocking to Firefox or anything else better (though they should)

And erm... 2000 Pro here.

2000 > XP > 98 > 95 > Michael Jackson > Little boys > WindowsME

It just makes sense.

You forgot NT :P

I'd say it's above 95... but below XP... perhaps it might be better than 98, since Microsoft based 2000 / XP off of NT :)

I also left out 3.1, 3.0, Longhorn, 1.0, 2.0, 3.11, CE, and Blackcomb.

Not to mention all the intermediate builds of each of these.

So has Homeland Security.

If only mainstream people would realize how horrible IE is and will always be. Despite how the new IE will supposedly have tabbed browsing and ad blocking (Welcome to 3 years ago MS).
