Hey, I was just wondering if anyone else was having problems connecting to IRC? I know that i can't from on campus here, but i'm wondering if it's some kind of problem with the campus firewall, or if the IRC server may have gone down?

Old thread I know, but the problem was on campus.

Second, I should get a new IRC client. Any suggestions? (HydraIRC is ruled out due to its uberlame ad policies).

lol Sim, by ad policies you mean quit messages :P

And by quit messages you mean you specify your own quit message when you manually quit ("/quit CUSTOM_MSG")

Also, if you quit the channel before you quit the server, no custom quit msg will be shown.

I've been happy with mIRC. Another client that I've used is Xircon, although it's grossly outdated (I believe the last update was in 1998). I've used xchat on and off for the last 4 years or so.

I don't use scripts so I don't really have any suggestions in that aspect. The two that I have used, though are kano for Xircon and ircN for mIRC.

wow lots of different types! I am sticking to mIRC but i have HydraIRC but it just takes to long to get familiarized with and its just too much stress for what i want to do.

mIRC is pretty good. It's very user friendly and the scripting is good too.

I don't blame Hydra for advertising, but I want to advertise my own projects in the quit message, and I don't want to have to manually /quit or /part everytime as I frequently switch quickly between laptop and desktop.

i think hydra is too complicated for just connecting and sending messages.

Hmm... it has a MSVC-style interface though, which I'd probably like :)
